Hi, Great web site!
I used to cave, many many many years ago, now older, less flexible with a keen husband and 2 young kids. Is there anyone organising beginner trips? Or is caving with young kids???
Have had a look at the calender but would like to go on a trip not interstate…maybe buchan or closer…any suggestions?
Britannia Creek Cave (near Yarra Junction) would be a suitable cave for beginners and kids (with close supervision). VSA only organises trips for members (or prospective members), but you are welcome to go there yourself, the cave is on public land. It is fairly short, has many entrances and contains a flowing stream.
If you are the same Kath, I have just sent you an email regarding a beginners trip to Buchan in early October. I was notified through Marg James that you were looking for a beginner’s trip. Let me know if the email does not reach you. Thanks.
Yes, thanks Tom, I got your email last night. We’ll try and make it to the weekend – just will check dates with Jeremy. We’ll join up as prospective members – no probs.
And thanks Glenn, I’ll have a look on the map for the cave you mentioned.
My wife and I are into all types of activities involving the outdoors and we also have three young children, Jacinta 7, Renee 5 and Nathan 20 months. Our kids love caving (we take Nathan underground too) and have been many times however it would be good for them to also share their adventures with other children their age. I’m planning to be at the VSA beginners trip planned for the 6/7 October, (last weekend of school holidays).
We will be staying at Homeleigh arriving Wednesday or Thursday and departing Sunday morning. Homleigh is great for the kids to explore [b:2mp7gzst]EXCEPT[/b:2mp7gzst] for the busy road which is not fenced off at the front. We enforce strict rules on where our kids are allowed to play unsupervised.
