I was told that access to Labertouche has changed this year. The old road was closed, a new put in place with a walk in at the end. However I was also told that the new track was probably 4wd only. Has any one been there since the change and know what the status is? How hard is it to follow the track from new path? And specifically whether a 4WD is needed? I would hate to drive out there and not be able to get to it with my car or not be able to find it etc.
If you seek cave locations here you will need to introduce yourself and any caving organisations you are associated with. A mutual trust must be developed and then information may be revealed privately.
I can safely say that the old road is closed and a new one has been opened up. Its still possible to drive as close to the cave as previously, but some sections of the track are very rough and steep. As the sign says at the main gate, "4WD access only".
I am actually not associate with a caving club as such but with an outdoors club at a uni (LUMC – Latrobe Uni Mountaineering Club). We don’t do a lot of caving at the moment but we try to have a few trips to Brittania Creek or Labertouche a semester and probably make it down to Buchan maybe 3-4 times a year. We actually haven’t been to Labertouche this year due to access concern but there has been a lot of interest from new members and we generally can take only a limited number to Buchan
Hi Peter D. Email me privately and we can further discuss the road access to Labertouche Cave. My private email address is first on the list here –> http://www.vicspeleo.org.au/index.php?p … _addresses .
