Exponential Pot Trip 2016

When

08/04/2016 - 10/04/2016
All Day

Where

Homeleigh - Buchan
15 Gelantipy Rd, Buchan, Victoria, 3885

Exponential Pot (3M-125) is one of Victoria’s most important and impressive caves. Opportunities to visit are limited.

VSA has been running one trip per year into this great cave since about 2009. The cave is highly protected due to its excellent state of preservation, so the trips are rare, carefully managed and always have a genuine working objective.

A visit to M125 Exponential Pot at Buchan, a restricted access cave, is planned. Applications to participate in this trip are now invited.

So far the main objective has been to check and improve the mapping of the system. One objective for the series of visits that I have led over the past few years has been to spread familiarity with this fairly complex cave.

This objective will be the main focus this time as it might be my last visit. There is ample opportunity for photography (many pretties in here!) and possibly some minor extra data collection for the map.

NOTE: SRT competence is essential. There is only one SRT pitch (the 14m drop below the entrance), but it has a tight spot a meter or two down. Other short verticals in the cave are by handline or ladder. This is not a beginner’s cave. I would expect you all to turn up with the right equipment.

A party size of six, including me as leader, is allowed. Selection will favour those who have not been in the cave previously (but don’t let that stop you applying!).

I have not yet set a date, so please indicate available and preferred dates if you apply. I will schedule the trip to suit the maximum number of eligible applicants. For my part, I can (at present) support any weekend in March, April or May, but I want to nail the date down ASAP.

Logistics are as usual for Buchan: arrive Friday night, return Sunday evening, accommodation at Homeleigh. We would descend M125 on Saturday, for a duration around eight hours. Free caving time on Sunday.

You must be a paid member to join this trip. If you are new to the club, you must bring a signed membership form and $50 to join as an introductory member.

This is a must because without payment of form, you will not be covered for ASF insurance, therefore you may not join the session.

If you are new to the club, you must be able to show SRT competence before applying.
