Presentation : Geology and Plant Life: plants of the Buchan Valley
Assoc. Prof. John Morgan
Assoc Professor John Morgan is a plant ecologist at the Department of Ecological, Plant and Animal Sciences, La Trobe University. He is interested in the factors that influence plant distributions – both historic and contemporary. Many think of climate as the key driver of distributions, but geology and soils also have a profound impact on plants, shaping where they grow and their adaptation to environment. This is particularly true for plants that grow on ‘rare’ geology – like serpentine. In this talk, John will focus on plants of the Buchan region – where limestone plays an important role in the distribution of plants, and explains the current rarity of some.
