The purpose of this trip will be to provide aspiring Scrubby leaders with more leadership experience as well as introduce new people to the cave. We will be going to the known end of the cave to familiarise people with it so that future trips can focus on extending/updating the survey and probing possible leads.
The trip is open to experienced cavers who have a good level of fitness. Scrubby has a tight entrance and several tight squeezes through the rock piles. So, cavers need to be confident with tight places. There is also a sump near the beginning that involves a roof sniff. We will be fully immersed in water during the transit of the sump so a wet suit is mandatory. The ability to remain calm while floating on your back with your nose scraping the small air channel in the roof is an advantage. There is also a difficult section that involves trudging through thick gooey mud. This can be very tiring, especially when you consider that it has to be tackled twice, once on the way in and then again on the way out.
The beauty of the cave is exceptional and well worth the toil to get there. Places will be limited so get in early to avoid disappointment. If you are doubtful of your capability for the trip but are eager to check it out then message me and I’ll discuss with you your concerns.
Nominations for the trip and any questions should be sent to nigel.cooke@bigpond.com.
We now have enough starters to run two groups. If you are still considering coming along, then jump in quickly before the remaining places are taken. There won’t be a third group on this trip, so anyone missing out will have to look out for the next trip.
